I am fundraising in support of M.O.T.H. (Memorable Order of Tin Hats), an organisation dedicated to honouring the service, sacrifice and comradeship of military veterans. This cause is deeply personal to me. My grandfather served as an ex-serviceman during World War II, and his example shaped much of who I am today. He inspired my lifelong love of sport, encouraged me to pursue my goals, and was always my biggest supporter.
My participation in the Comrades Marathon is therefore about far more than completing a challenging race. The marathon itself was founded to remember the comrades of the Great War, making it a fitting tribute to those who served and sacrificed before us. Through this fundraising effort, I hope to honour my grandfather’s memory while supporting an organisation that continues to uphold the values of service, remembrance and mutual support.
This year makes the initiative especially meaningful, as both M.O.T.H. and the Comrades Marathon celebrate their centenary year. Marking 100 years of these two remarkable institutions by running and fundraising in their honour feels both apt and deeply significant.
Thank you for helping me preserve their legacy and support those who have served.
