This marathon is far more than a race to me. It is a tribute, a promise, and a continuation of a legacy left behind by my father.

My father lived with a rare and devastating lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis. Despite the odds stacked against him, he never stopped believing in the power of perseverance. He attempted the Comrades Marathon ten times and crossed the finish line six times, each step a testament to his courage, resilience, and unbreakable spirit. Running was his way of showing that even when life makes it hard to breathe, you keep moving forward.

Today, I run in his memory. With every kilometer, I carry his strength, his determination, and his belief that challenges are meant to be faced head-on. By continuing his legacy, I hope to honor not only the runner he was, but the man who taught me what it truly means to fight with heart.

In that same spirit, I have chosen to give back to those who inspire courage beyond words, the children bravely battling cancer. These young warriors face battles no child should ever have to endure, yet they do so with strength, hope, and smiles that light the way forward. They are the heroes of tomorrow, and supporting them is my way of standing beside them in their fight.

By partnering with the Childhood Cancer Foundation of South Africa, this run becomes more than a personal journey. It becomes a symbol of hope, remembrance, and compassion. This is my way of turning pain into purpose, honoring my father’s legacy, and championing the incredible bravery of children who remind us all what true strength looks like.
